Dispensaries in Aurora

Aurora has 24 dispensaries licensed by the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED). Adults 21 and older with a valid government photo ID, including out-of-state visitors, can buy at any of them. Aurora is an adult-use market: none of its stores in our list holds a medical license, but it is one of the Denver-area cities that allows licensed home delivery.

Aurora's stores look different from Denver's. Instead of small shops on busy main streets, most are large, high-volume stores in shopping centers and on arterial roads, many of them run by regional chains, and most stay open until 11:45 p.m. Star Buds on Arapahoe Road has more Google reviews than any store on our Denver page.

Visiting a Dispensary in Aurora: ID, Payment and Hours

  • ID: You must be 21 or older with a valid, unexpired ID. Out-of-state licenses and passports are accepted. A medical card does not let anyone under 21 shop here, because no Aurora store in our list is medical-licensed.
  • Hours: State rules allow sales from 8 a.m. to midnight. Most Aurora stores open at 8 or 9 a.m., and more than half of those with listed hours stay open until 11:45 p.m. or later.
  • Payment: Cash and debit are standard, and large stores usually have an ATM. Credit cards are rarely accepted.

Aurora and Colorado Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

A retail store can sell you up to 1 ounce of flower or its equivalent per transaction, and no more than 8 grams of concentrate a day. Adults may possess up to 2 ounces. See our Colorado marijuana laws guide for more.

  • Public use: Consuming cannabis in public is a petty offense with a fine of up to $100. That includes parking lots, city parks and Cherry Creek State Park.
  • Federal property: Buckley Space Force Base is federal land, where cannabis is illegal under any circumstances.
  • Driving: Keep packages sealed and never use cannabis in a vehicle. A blood level of 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter lets a court infer impairment.
  • The airport: Aurora's east side is close to Denver International Airport, but you cannot bring cannabis there or take it out of Colorado.

Cannabis Taxes in Aurora

Your total tax depends on which county the store is in. The City of Aurora's published tax summary lists a city marijuana tax rate of 8.75%, which includes Aurora's 3.75% general sales tax. Added to Colorado's 15% retail marijuana sales tax and transit, cultural and county taxes, the summary puts the combined rate at 25.10% in Arapahoe County, 25.60% in Adams County and 25.85% in Douglas County. Each delivery carries a $1 city surcharge. A 15% state excise tax is paid at wholesale and built into prices. Check your receipt, since rates can change. Medical Marijuana in Aurora

None of the 24 Aurora stores in our list holds a medical license. Registered patients 21 and older can still shop at Aurora's retail stores, but they pay retail taxes and the 1-ounce limit applies. For medical prices and the 2-ounce daily patient limit, patients need a medical store in another city, such as Denver, which has dozens.
