Dispensaries in Denver

Denver has 183 dispensaries licensed by the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED). Any adult 21 or older with a valid government photo ID can buy, including visitors with an out-of-state license or a passport, and 82 of those stores also hold a medical license for registered patients. Denver is also one of the few places in Colorado that licenses marijuana hospitality businesses, where adults can legally consume on site.

No other city in Colorado comes close to Denver's store count. Stores line the city's long commercial streets rather than clustering in one district, so most residents and hotel guests are a short drive from several. Competition keeps ratings high and hours long: dozens of stores stay open until 11:45 p.m. or later.

Based on public Google ratings and hours, checked October 2026:

Visiting a Dispensary in Denver: ID, Payment and Hours

  • ID: Staff must check a valid ID showing you are 21 or older before any retail sale. Out-of-state driver's licenses and passports work.
  • Hours: State rules allow retail sales from 8 a.m. to midnight. Denver stores set their own hours inside that window, from about 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. at the longest.
  • Payment: Most stores take cash and debit, and many have an ATM. Credit cards are rarely accepted because cannabis is still illegal under federal law.

Denver and Colorado Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

A retail store may sell you up to 1 ounce of flower, or its equivalent, per transaction, and no more than 8 grams of concentrate a day. Adults may possess up to 2 ounces. Our Colorado marijuana laws guide covers home grow and penalties.

  • Public use: Consuming cannabis openly and publicly is a petty offense with a fine of up to $100. That includes downtown sidewalks, city parks and concert venues.
  • Hospitality businesses: Denver licenses marijuana hospitality businesses, including mobile lounges, where consuming on site is legal. Consumption is banned at any place with a liquor license.
  • Denver International Airport: You cannot bring cannabis to DIA, and taking it out of Colorado is illegal, even to another legal state.
  • Driving: Never open packaging or use cannabis in a vehicle, even when parked. A blood level of 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter lets a court infer impairment.
