Cambridge has 11 dispensaries licensed by the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission (CCC). Adults 21 and older with a valid government photo ID can buy, including visitors from out of state. Cambridge took a different path. In September 2019 the City Council passed a two-year rule that let only applicants certified under the state's Economic Empowerment program, which aims to help communities harmed by past drug enforcement, open new adult-use stores. The council later extended that head start to September 23, 2022 and opened it to social equity applicants as well.
