Ann Arbor's cannabis history runs deeper than legalization. The city's Hash Bash rally has met on the University of Michigan Diag every April for more than five decades, with the 55th held on April 4, 2026. Today the market is spread across the whole city, from walkable shops downtown and next to campus to bigger stores out on Washtenaw Avenue, Plymouth Road and Ellsworth Road. Students should know one thing up front: the university bans cannabis on its property, even for students over 21.

  • ID: A valid, unexpired government photo ID showing you are 21 or older. A student ID alone will not work. Out-of-state licenses and passports are fine.
  • Payment: Most stores take cash and debit, and many have an ATM. Credit cards are rarely accepted.
  • Hours: Michigan lets each city regulate store hours. In Ann Arbor, most stores open at 9 a.m., and closing times range from 8 p.m. to midnight.
  • Game days: Downtown and campus stores get busy and parking gets tight on football Saturdays. The north and south side stores are easier to reach then.
