Dispensaries in Grants Pass

Grants Pass has 10 dispensaries licensed by the Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission (OLCC), several of them just outside city limits on Merlin Road and Rogue River Highway. Adults 21 and older can buy with a valid ID from any state, California included. Oregon allows sales from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., though some in-town stores close earlier, and 8 Grants Pass stores can deliver.

Each store comes from the OLCC's active retailer list and shows its license number. Grants Pass is the base camp for the Rogue River and the last sizable Oregon town on the Redwood Highway to California, so river and border rules get as much space here as the stores.

Rafting the Rogue? Leave the Cannabis on Shore

Most trips that start in Grants Pass end up on the Rogue. Much of the river corridor downstream, including the Wild and Scenic section, crosses federal land managed by the Bureau of Land Management and the Forest Service, where cannabis is illegal under federal law. Even on stretches outside federal land, using it on the water, at a boat ramp or in Riverside Park is public use, an Oregon Class B violation with a presumptive $265 fine. It is also a safety problem in whitewater. The legal place to consume is private property where the owner allows it.

Anglers and rafters driving to put-ins should know Oregon has no THC blood limit: officers judge impairment on the spot, and a cannabis DUII is charged the same way as one involving alcohol.

Heading South on US 199 to California

US 199, the Redwood Highway, runs southwest from Grants Pass through Cave Junction to the California line and the coast. California has legalized cannabis too, but carrying it across the state line is a federal crime, so finish or leave your purchase in Oregon. A California license works fine as ID at the counter; a California medical card does not qualify for Oregon's tax-free medical sales, which are limited to Oregon OMMP cardholders.

Grants Pass Dispensaries by Area

Of the 10 licensed stores, 9 serve Oregon Medical Marijuana Program (OMMP) patients and 8 can deliver. Emerald Triangle Dispensary has two locations. ZIP code 97526, downtown and the north side, holds six stores; the other four are in 97527 to the south and west.

Store Hours and Taxes in Grants Pass

State rules allow sales from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., but hours vary more here than in most Oregon cities. In our listing data, several stores inside Grants Pass close earlier in the evening than the shops just outside town on Merlin Road and Rogue River Highway, so check before you drive in late from the river or the highway.

Recreational purchases include Oregon's 17% state cannabis tax, and Oregon cities can add up to 3%. A city tax only applies inside city limits, so the total can differ between in-town and county stores; the receipt itemizes it, and the City of Grants Pass can confirm its rate. Oregon has no sales tax, and OMMP cardholders pay no cannabis tax. Southern Oregon grows a lot of outdoor flower, and local sun-grown cannabis is often good value.

At the Counter: ID, Cash and Daily Limits

  • ID: An unexpired government photo ID showing you are 21. Licenses from any state, passports and military IDs work.
  • Payment: Cash or debit; many stores have an ATM. Credit cards are uncommon.
  • Daily limit: Up to 2 ounces of flower, 10 grams of concentrates, 16 ounces of edibles and 72 fluid ounces of drinks per person.
  • Delivery: Endorsed stores deliver to homes in their approved area, never to campgrounds, hotels or businesses. Order before 8 p.m.; the driver checks ID.
  • Medical: OMMP patients skip the tax, can buy more, and can shop at 18 to 20 with their card.
