Ever used something other than a butane lighter to light your glass? Well our friends over at Humboldt Traders were kind enough to send The Weed Street Journal Team a sample of their renowned organic hemp wick to be put to the test. Unlike butane, hemp is not a gas and does not combust at high temperatures. Many medical patients with weak immune systems prefer this method rather than a butane lighter in order to decrease the strain put on their lungs when inhaling potentially dangerous chemicals and noxious gases.
Upon arrival from Humboldt Traders, we were ecstatic to find 20 feet of hemp wick as well as a hand-blown wick holder. We have been told that the wick holder was created by Per Glass, a local glassblower over in Humboldt. At first glance, even those unfamiliar with the subject can tell you that this wick holder is a true work of art. We were immediately very impressed by its aesthetic appeal, as well as its all-around convenience in regards to size, shape, and overall look and feel. The glass holder fits in your hand perfectly, making it simple for even the novice smoker to maneuver. The holder came in two pieces, one piece being the larger body that contains the hemp wick, and the other acting as a joint or cap to aid in adjusting the wick length and positioning.
The Humboldt Hemp Wick is made with 100% organic beeswax from Humboldt County, California and 100% certified organic hemp twine imported from Hungary. Just by holding the wick in your hand, one can tell that it is a remarkably durable and resistant to whatever force that may be acting on it.
Now, let us discuss if the wick does as it says and delivers a cleaner, more efficient smoke for its audience. As you would assume, in order to do this we simply replaced a generic butane lighter with the wick in its place. Holding the wick up to an open flame for less than a second is all you need to get it going. First, we immediately noticed that the flame was much smaller than expected, allowing us to “corner” the bowl with pinpoint accuracy and precision. Give the wick a gold star simply for possessing this attribute. You no longer have to worry about torching or wasting any of your medicine. This specific wick from Humboldt is called the “fine flame hemp wick” which offers a precision flame. They also offer the “full flame hemp wick”, which has a single difference. The full flame wick is .5mm thicker, burns slower, and provides a larger and more robust flame. The wick burns in a very slow and fluid fashion and it very simple to extinguish and relight.
If you take a look at the images we have provided, it is obvious that the wick can be handled with ease. We are glad to have had the pleasure to review such a product and highly recommend that you do the same. Don’t just take our word for it; you can get your own hemp wick directly from Humboldt Traders at www.humboldt-traders.com as well as a hand-blown glass holder from www.weedglass.com
