The ACLU has put more pressure on Florida Governor Rick Scott to suspend unlawful drug tests. The ACLU claims that drug tests invade peoples privacy when they have not jeopardized the safety of society. That is why the ACLU sued Rick Scott in Federal Court under the grounds that forcing workers to take drug tests violates their constitutional protection against unlawful search and seizures, and violates due process.

Randall Marshall the legal director for the Florida ACLU stated,”We are pleased that this new order has delayed subjecting thousands of state employees to demeaning, invasive and illegal tests of their bodily fluids” Rick Scott campaigned under the premise that his government would be small and limited, however, this law does exactly the opposite. Critics even say the cost of the program is wasteful and could total 3.6 million dollars.

Governor Scott believes the Federal court will uphold his decision, while the ACLU describes the suspension as a huge and embarrassing retreat for the governor.

The ACLU vows to fight for people’s rights against unlawful drug tests, and this Federal court decision will make a big influence on the future of this controversial issue.
