Bran Castle was the home of Vlad the Impaler. A man known to enjoy torturing people and who would keep a person alive for days impaled on a stake. It is said he especially enjoyed eating his meals while he watched his victims suffer. So, no wonder the place is haunted. The dead moan in their misery, screaming to be set free.

The castle itself sits high up in the mountains of Romania. It was built in the early thirteenth century by Teutonic Knights. The castle played a  military strategic role in the war with the Ottoman Empire. The castle has all the trappings that should belong to one that is haunted including a steep mountain climb and secret passageways. The amount of suffering that took place there is unimaginable. No modern day horror movie could ever outdo the truth of what happened at Bran Castle.

Vlad experimented with many ways to make his enemies suffer. The usual way was for impairment through the stomach and up through the mouth. Sometimes he would impale his victims upside down. Mothers and children were not given special treatment and The Impaler liked to impale children and infants on their mother’s chest.

Historical records kept by Vlad and his men reveal that his cruelty was not just for his enemies but also for his own people. He decided that there were too many poor people and sick in the nearby town. He invited them all to a big feast. As they were eating, he had the room locked and set on fire. Therefore ridding his town of their burden.

The castle has been investigated by a host of international paranormal researchers. Most say that the majority of the hauntings are happening not inside the castle itself, but on the mountain side. This make sense — this is where the impaling took place.
