Super Boof is a hybrid cannabis strain bred from Black Cherry Punch and Tropicana Cookies, known for a loud grapefruit and orange nose backed by gas. It started as Blockberry, a cross from San Diego breeder Blockhead, before Michigan grower Mobilejay selected a standout plant and gave it the Super Boof name. It regularly tests around 28% THC, and Leafly named it Strain of the Year for 2024.

Where Super Boof Comes From

Super Boof began life around 2019 as Blockberry, a cross of Black Cherry Punch and Tropicana Cookies made by a San Diego breeder who works under the name Blockhead. Black Cherry Punch brings dark-fruit, Purple Punch-style genetics, while Tropicana Cookies adds the bright orange profile of the Tangie and Cookies families.

Michigan cloner and grower Mobilejay hunted through Blockberry seeds, picked out a particularly loud phenotype, and jokingly called it Super Boof (boof being slang for low-grade weed). The ironic name stuck, and between 2021 and 2022 clones spread through Michigan and then across the country. The cut also proved itself as hash material, winning ice water hash honors at The Ego Clash in both 2023 and 2024.

Leafly named Super Boof its Strain of the Year for 2024, a sign of how quickly it moved from a regional clone to a national menu staple. It has since been used as a parent for strains such as Sub Zero and Super Buff Cherry.

Super Boof Effects: What It Feels Like

Despite the name, reviewers describe a lively, upbeat high. The most common reports are giggly, euphoric and focused, and Leafly classes its effects as mostly energizing. Many people describe a fast, chatty lift in mood that works well with friends, followed by a mellower, comfortable body feel as it wears on.

Sources disagree on whether it leans sativa or indica, which fits its balanced reputation: some producers sell it as sativa-leaning, others as indica-leaning. Potency is the bigger factor. With batches often near or above 28% THC, newer consumers should start with a single small hit, since too much can bring on dizziness or a racing head.

Super Boof Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor

Super Boof smells like fresh-cut grapefruit and orange peel at first, then shows a sharp gassy edge when the bud is broken up. Reviewers also mention diesel and earthy notes on the exhale, with a sweet citrus aftertaste that leans toward its Tropicana Cookies parent. A darker berry undertone from Black Cherry Punch shows up in some cuts.

Leafly lists myrcene as its dominant terpene. Myrcene gives the earthy, musky foundation, while the bright citrus top notes suggest limonene plays a role too, though published terpene breakdowns vary by grower.

  • Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops

Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.
