Dispensaries in Minneapolis

Minneapolis has 25 dispensaries licensed by the Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM), more than any other city in the state. Anyone 21 or older with a valid photo ID can shop, and out-of-state visitors buy on the same terms as residents. 7 of the stores also hold a medical endorsement for patients in Minnesota's medical cannabis program. Inside city limits, the Minnesota Department of Revenue lists a combined sales tax rate of 9.025%, which sits on top of the 15% cannabis tax.

Minneapolis was not first to open: Minnesota's non-tribal stores only started adult-use sales in mid-September 2025, and the city's market has filled in fast since then. What sets it apart is density. Six stores share the 55408 ZIP code around Lake Street, Lyndale and Hennepin avenues, a row of shops runs up Central Avenue in Northeast, and the city's most reviewed store stays open until a minute before midnight.

Visiting a Dispensary in Minneapolis: ID, Payment and Hours

Every store checks ID at the door or the counter, every visit. A driver's license from any state or a Canadian province works, and so does a passport. Plan for cash or debit, since many cannabis stores cannot run regular credit cards; check the store's listing before you go.

Opening times here range from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and closing times from 5 p.m. at Verist Fields to just before midnight at MnLooN. State law shuts down sales from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday and until 10 a.m. on Sunday, so no Minneapolis store can sell on a Sunday morning before 10.

Minneapolis and Minnesota Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

A single purchase is capped at 2 ounces of flower, 8 grams of concentrate and 800 milligrams of THC in edibles. Those same amounts are the most an adult may carry in public, and up to 2 pounds of flower may be kept at home.

Lighting up in public is where visitors get caught out. State law limits use to private homes and yards, private property not open to the public when the owner allows it, and licensed consumption venues. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board added cannabis smoking and vaping to its park tobacco ban in May 2025, so the lakes and parkways are off limits even though staff warn rather than ticket. The University of Minnesota bans all cannabis products on its property under its drug-free policy. At MSP Airport, a Metropolitan Airports Commission ordinance has banned smoking cannabis since January 1, 2024, and TSA screening follows federal law. Using cannabis in a car is illegal, and so is driving high. Our Minnesota marijuana laws guide has penalties and details.

Cannabis Taxes in Minneapolis

Adult-use purchases carry Minnesota's 15% cannabis gross receipts tax plus sales tax. For October through December 2026, the Department of Revenue lists 9.025% as the combined general sales tax rate in Minneapolis: the 6.875% state rate plus Hennepin County, metro area, city and transit taxes. There is no separate city cannabis tax, and your receipt itemizes each charge. Compare costs in our 2026 cannabis prices by state report.

Medical Marijuana in Minneapolis

Patients enrolled with OCM's Division of Medical Cannabis can shop at any of the 7 medical-endorsed stores: Green Goods, In-Dispensary, Sweetleaves, BlooMN, Green Rose and both Betcha Bud locations. At those stores, enrolled patients pay neither the cannabis tax nor sales tax. The Minnesota dispensary page explains enrollment.
