Dispensaries in Jersey City

Jersey City has 25 dispensaries licensed by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC), more than any other city in the state. Anyone 21 or older with a government-issued ID can shop here, including New Yorkers who ride the PATH across the Hudson. 2 of the stores also serve registered medical patients. Fifteen of them stay open until 11 p.m., so a late stop after work in Manhattan is easy.

No New Jersey city comes close to Jersey City for choice. Its stores are spread across five ZIP codes, from the Newark Avenue strip downtown to Tonnelle Avenue in the Heights. Ratings run unusually high: most stores with a meaningful number of Google reviews sit at 4.8 stars or better, so the real differences are location, hours and menu.

Visiting a Dispensary in Jersey City: ID, Payment and Hours

Show a valid government ID at the door. A New York driver's license or a passport works the same as a New Jersey license, and the CRC says staff may not photocopy it or keep a record of what you bought. Bring cash or a debit card, since many cannabis stores cannot take credit cards; ask before you rely on one. Hours are set store by store, from 7 a.m. openings in the Heights to 11 p.m. closings across the city.

Jersey City and New Jersey Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

New Jersey's CREAMM Act made adult-use cannabis legal in 2021. One sale can include up to 1 ounce of flower, or 4 grams of concentrate, or 4 grams of vape oil, or 1,000 mg of edibles, or a mix that adds up to the same. Adults can possess up to 6 ounces without penalty. Growing at home is not allowed, even for patients.

  • The Hudson is a state line. New York has its own legal market, but the CRC says carrying cannabis across state lines is still illegal. A Jersey City purchase should stay in New Jersey, and the same goes for anything bought in Manhattan.
  • Public places: Smoking or vaping cannabis is banned wherever tobacco smoking is banned and in any indoor public place. Liberty State Park, the waterfront walkway, PATH stations and sidewalks are all out. Private property with the owner's permission is the legal option.
  • Federal ground: The ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island lead to federal property, where cannabis is illegal.
  • Driving: Impaired driving is charged under the same DUI statute as alcohol, and passengers may not smoke while the car is moving.

Cannabis Taxes in Jersey City

Every adult-use sale carries New Jersey's 6.625% sales tax. On top of that, the state lets a town add a cannabis transfer tax of up to 2% on retail sales. We could not confirm Jersey City's current rate on an official source, so look at the receipt, which lists every tax charged. There is no separate state cannabis excise tax at the register. For context, see our 2026 cannabis prices by state.

Medical Marijuana in Jersey City

Jersey City has 2 stores that also operate as alternative treatment centers, New Jersey's term for medical dispensaries: Downtown FLWR and Ript. Patients enrolled in the CRC's Medicinal Cannabis Program pay no state sales tax, get priority service, and can buy up to 3 ounces in 30 days as set by their practitioner. Patients under 21 must use a medical dispensary.
