Dispensaries in Columbus

Columbus has 25 dispensaries licensed by the Ohio Division of Cannabis Control. Any adult 21 or older with a valid government-issued photo ID can shop, and that includes visitors from other states. Since Senate Bill 56 merged Ohio's licenses, every one of the 25 stores also serves registered medical patients. Columbus has more licensed stores than any other Ohio city, all of them in Franklin County.

Ohio's capital is a big, spread-out market, and its stores follow the freeways and the old commercial strips rather than one downtown cluster. You will find shops near the Ohio State campus, along West Broad and East Main, out on Morse Road and up by the outerbelt in the northwest. Competition is real here: three Columbus stores carry a 4.9 Google rating, and the busiest one has more than 3,500 reviews.

Columbus and Ohio Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

In one day a Columbus store may sell you up to 2.5 ounces of flower plus other products holding up to 15,000 milligrams of total THC, under the Division of Cannabis Control's sales-limit guidance. You may possess 2.5 ounces of plant material and 15 grams of extract in all. Since March 20, 2026, only cannabis from a licensed Ohio store or a legal home grow is lawful to have, so product carried in from Michigan or anywhere else is contraband.

Smoking and vaping are limited to private property used mainly as a home or farm. Lighting up in a park, on a downtown sidewalk or outside the arena is a minor misdemeanor, and landlords may forbid it in a lease. In a car, keep cannabis in its sealed package or in the trunk, and remember that driving high is an OVI. Students should note that Ohio State bans possession and use on all university-owned, operated or leased property, residence halls included, because federal law applies there. Full details are in our Ohio marijuana laws guide.

Cannabis Taxes in Columbus

Adult-use purchases in Columbus carry Ohio's 10% marijuana excise tax plus regular sales tax, each figured on the sale price. Ohio law bars cities and counties from adding their own cannabis tax, so Columbus has none. The sales tax portion follows the county rate, and your receipt lists both lines. Registered patients skip the 10% excise. Compare costs nationwide in our 2026 cannabis price guide.

Medical Marijuana in Columbus

Patients may not smoke their medicine, though other forms are allowed.
