Dispensaries in Newark

Newark has 5 dispensaries licensed by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC), one in each of five different parts of the city. To buy, you need to be 21 and carry a government photo ID; New Jersey residency is not required. 1 Newark store, URB'N Dispensary in the Ironbound, also serves medical patients. URB'N was one of the first four stores in New Jersey approved for an on-site consumption area, in July 2025.

For the state's largest city, Newark has few stores, and they are spread out rather than clustered. Downtown, the North Ward, the Ironbound, Weequahic and the South Ward near the airport each have one. Pick the one nearest where you live, work or land.

Visiting a Dispensary in Newark: ID, Payment and Hours

Bring a valid photo ID proving you are 21 or older. A license from any state, a passport or a New Jersey ID all work, and the CRC bars stores from copying the ID or keeping records of your purchase. Pay with cash or debit.

Newark and New Jersey Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

Every sale is limited to 1 ounce of flower, or 4 grams of concentrate, or 4 grams of vape oil, or 1,000 mg of edibles, with mixed orders allowed up to the same total. Adults may keep up to 6 ounces, and home grows are illegal.

  • Consumption areas: The CRC approved URB'N's consumption area endorsement on July 15, 2025, subject to a final inspection. In a licensed consumption area, everyone must be 21 with photo ID and alcohol is banned. Ask the store whether it is open.
  • Air travelers: Never pack cannabis for a flight; it is federally illegal and cannot cross state lines.
  • Public places: Branch Brook Park, Weequahic Park, Military Park and Riverfront Park are public, and so are the sidewalks outside the Prudential Center, so cannabis smoking and vaping are banned there.
  • Driving: Impaired driving is a DUI under New Jersey law, with no set THC limit.
