In yet another underhanded attempt to undermine the legalization of marijuana, Colorado legislatures voted to amend the wording in an information packet going out to voters. Â Known as the “blue book” this informational packet contains information on every initiative on the ballot, including Amendment 64. If passed, Amendment 64 will legalize limited possession of marijuana in the state of Colorado.
Proponents for the legalization of marijuana claim that at the last moment key legislators voted to amend the wording on Amendment 64 in an underhanded attempt to show the amendment in ill light.
In the final voting on the wording of blue book, Senator Mark Scheffel, expressed concern over the wording that stated that marijuana is safer than alcohol and that penalties are too severe, thus leading to the conclusion that legalization is the most logical choice.
Scheffel succeeded in deleting the paragraph. Several law makers stated that they voted in favor of Scheffel because they thought that they would return to the wording to amend it (and not just delete it).
Those in favor of Amendment 64 have filed a court hearing to have the language restored to its original language before the blue book is printed.
