Dispensaries in Tucson

Tucson has 22 dispensaries licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). You need to be 21 and carry a valid photo ID to buy; out-of-state visitors and University of Arizona students who are of age qualify. 15 of the stores also fill orders for registered patients, while the rest sell to adults only. Several Tucson shops stay open until midnight, later than anything in Phoenix.

Tucson's market looks different from the Phoenix area's. Local names like D2, Earth's Healing, The Prime Leaf and SAINTS compete with national chains, and Sol Flower alone runs four adult-use stores here. Hours vary much more than in Phoenix too, from 7 a.m. openings to midnight closings, so where and when you shop matters.

Oracle Road is Tucson's dispensary row: five stores sit on it or just off it, from the 85705 ZIP north into the foothills, and three more are elsewhere on the north side. A second cluster lines 22nd Street and Kolb Road on the east side, and the rest are spread between downtown, midtown and the south side. Keep in mind that a Tucson mailing address does not always mean the store is inside city limits.

Visiting a Dispensary in Tucson: ID, Payment and Hours

  • Bring ID: Arizona stores take an unexpired driver license from any state or Canada, a passport or a U.S. military ID. A CatCard or other student ID will not do.
  • Payment: Most stores run on cash and debit. Credit cards are uncommon because of federal law.
  • Hours: The spread is wide. The Prime Leaf and Botanica open at 9 a.m., the early birds at 7, and three stores stay open until midnight. Check the listing before a late run.

Tucson and Arizona Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

Each sale is capped at 1 ounce, and only 5 grams of it may be concentrate. That is also what an adult may legally carry. Going over 1 ounce, up to 2.5, is a petty offense, a ticket rather than a criminal charge.

  • Public places: Lighting up in public or in an open space, from 4th Avenue to the Loop trail, is a petty offense.
  • Campus: The University of Arizona is Arizona Board of Regents property, and ADHS rules bar dispensary deliveries there.
  • Federal land: Saguaro National Park, the Coronado National Forest on Mount Lemmon and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base all fall under federal law, where possession is illegal.
  • The border: Carrying cannabis toward Mexico, or through a Border Patrol checkpoint on the highways south of town, puts you under federal law.
  • On the road: Consuming in a moving car is banned for passengers as well as drivers, and impaired driving is a DUI.
