Dispensaries in Oxford

Oxford has 6 dispensaries licensed by the Mississippi Department of Revenue. They sell medical cannabis to Mississippi cardholders, registered caregivers and visiting patients with a 15-day nonresident card, and to no one else. Being 21 does not qualify a student or a game-day visitor to buy. Even with a card, the University of Mississippi bans marijuana on its property and at university events.

Oxford is a college town first, and that shapes this market. All six stores are in Lafayette County and outside the Square, spread along North Lamar Boulevard and West Jackson Avenue. The city also requires its own business license for dispensaries, issued through the City Clerk's office under an ordinance the Board of Aldermen approved in June 2022.

Oxford, Ole Miss and Mississippi Cannabis Laws

The University of Mississippi's policy prohibits marijuana possession, use, sale and distribution on all university property and at university events, regardless of state law. In December 2022 the university reminded students, faculty and staff that this applies even to medical cardholders, Hotty Toddy reported. That includes dorms, the Grove and Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

  • Limits: Residents may buy up to 24 MMCEUs in any 30 days and possess up to 28. Nonresidents may buy 6 per week and 12 per 15 days. One MMCEU is 3.5 grams of flower, 1 gram of concentrate or 100 mg of THC.
  • Out-of-state students: A student who holds a medical card from home can apply for a Mississippi nonresident card, but it lasts only 15 days at a time.
  • Public use: Not authorized anywhere the public is invited or on government property, which includes the Square, sidewalks and parks. A private residence is not a public place.
  • Driving: Driving impaired is DUI under Miss. Code 63-11-30, and use in a vehicle is not authorized.
  • Memphis trips: Tennessee is about an hour north. A Mississippi card is valid only in Mississippi, and crossing a state line with cannabis is illegal under federal law. See our Tennessee law guide.
