Dispensaries in Missoula

Missoula has 50 dispensaries licensed by the Montana Department of Revenue. Adults 21 and older can buy with a valid photo ID, and visitors need no Montana address. Medical cardholders get an unusually good deal here, because Missoula County adds its 3% local tax to adult-use sales only, so a medical purchase carries just the 4% state tax. The city has also stopped issuing new adult-use dispensary licenses, so the stores you see now are close to the full field for the near future.

What sets Missoula apart is density. Fifty stores serve a college town, and they bunch up in a way you rarely see elsewhere in Montana: four shops sit within about a block of each other on West Broadway, and five more line South 3rd Street West. Shoppers can compare menus on foot, and stores compete hard on ratings, with several over 400 Google reviews.

The stores spread across three ZIP codes. ZIP 59802 covers downtown north of the Clark Fork, Broadway and the Northside. ZIP 59801 covers the south side, including Higgins, Brooks, Reserve and South 3rd Street West. ZIP 59808 reaches west along West Broadway, the Stockyard Road area and Highway 10 toward the airport. In July 2026 the city council voted to keep its ban on new adult-use dispensary licenses while it reviews zoning, though existing stores may still relocate, NBC Montana reported. Fourteen of our 50 listings show a name only.

Missoula and Montana Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

You may buy and carry up to 1 ounce, with no more than 8 grams of concentrate and 800 milligrams of THC in edibles. Since July 2026, edibles are limited to 5 milligrams of THC a serving and 100 a package. Public use is a civil offense with a fine of up to $50, which covers the Riverfront Trail, Caras Park and the river itself; private property with permission is the legal option. Use is also banned in hotel rooms not set aside for smoking.

West of town, Idaho bans marijuana entirely, and carrying it across any state line is illegal. The Lolo National Forest and other federal land around Missoula fall under federal law too. Driving with 5 ng/mL or more of THC in the blood is DUI. Read the details in our Montana marijuana laws guide or compare states in our cannabis law guides.

Cannabis Taxes in Missoula

Missoula County charges a 3% local option tax on adult-use sales, in effect since January 31, 2022, and has not implemented one on medical sales, according to the Department of Revenue. So adult-use buyers pay 23% (20% state plus 3% county) and cardholders pay only the 4% state tax. There is no general sales tax in Montana. Tax is calculated on the discounted price. See our 2026 price guide for how Montana compares.

Medical Marijuana in Missoula

None of Missoula's stores is medical only, but every one can serve cardholders, and here that saves 19 points of tax compared with adult use. Cards are for Montana residents with a Montana physician's recommendation and cost $20; limits are 1 ounce a day and 5 ounces a month. Other states' cards are not honored. Our Cannabis 101 page covers the basics.

How we build this list: Our Missoula list starts with the Montana Department of Revenue's licensed dispensary locations. We add ratings, review counts and hours from public Google Maps data, leave closed stores out of the text, and show a name only where we could not confirm a street address. The list is refreshed monthly.
