Dispensaries in Somerset

Somerset has 12 dispensaries licensed by the New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC), the third-highest count in the state. Somerset is not a town of its own: it is the postal name for much of Franklin Township in Somerset County, and every store here uses the 08873 ZIP code. Shoppers must be 21 or older with a government ID, and out-of-state visitors are welcome. 2 of the stores also serve registered patients.

Franklin Township opted in to cannabis businesses in 2021, and the result is one of the densest clusters in central New Jersey. Most of the stores sit just over the line from New Brunswick, on the streets that lead out of the city and past Rutgers, a few minutes from the city.

Because Somerset is a mailing address rather than a city, the map can be confusing: Hamilton Street and Easton Avenue both start in New Brunswick, and these stores are on the Franklin side. Hamilton Street has the tightest group. Two stores are farther out, on Franklin Boulevard and on Route 27 toward Kingston.

Hamilton Street: Bridge City Collective Dispensary at 665 and Timber 5 at 695 are almost next door, with Dispensary of Somerset farther out at 920. A fourth, temporarily closed when we checked, is left off for now.

Easton Avenue and Kennedy Boulevard: Leaf Haus at 900 Easton and Bloc at 1075 Easton, plus Central Jersey Dispensary on John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Somerset Street and Elizabeth Avenue: Somerset Green and Dazed Cannabis are on Somerset Street, and Unity Rd. Cannabis Shop is on Elizabeth Avenue.

Franklin Boulevard and Route 27: Herb's Premium Dispensary is on Franklin Boulevard, and SilverLeaf Wellness is on Route 27.

Somerset and New Jersey Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

  • On the road: Do not use cannabis while driving, and passengers may not smoke while the vehicle moves. Impaired driving is prosecuted under the DUI law.
