Dispensaries in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh has 13 dispensaries licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health. They serve medical patients only, so the buyer must hold an active Pennsylvania medical marijuana ID card, or be a registered caregiver for someone who does. There is no adult-use counter for residents or visitors, and cards from Ohio, West Virginia or anywhere else are refused. Two Pittsburgh stores stay open until 10 p.m., the latest hours we track in the city.

Pittsburgh's store map looks different from the rest of the state because the Pittsburgh mailing address reaches well beyond the city. Eight of the stores below are in city neighborhoods like the Strip District, Lawrenceville and Squirrel Hill; the other five sit in suburbs such as Penn Hills, Pleasant Hills and Harmarville that use a Pittsburgh address. The local scene also includes a few names you will not see in Philadelphia, among them Terra Pharm, Maitri Medicinals, Delta 9 and DRK MTR.

Visiting a Dispensary in Pittsburgh: Card, ID, Payment and Hours

At the door, staff check your Pennsylvania medical marijuana card along with a Pennsylvania driver's license or state photo ID. A certification alone is not enough; the card has to be active and paid. A few stores want first-time patients to make an appointment, so a quick call saves a wasted trip. A pharmacist or physician is available during all patient hours, either in person or over a live video link, to look over your certification and talk through products. Bring cash or a debit card, and ask ahead about other payment options.

Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

  • How much: The cap is a 90-day supply, which regulations define as 192 units. Count 3.5 grams of dry leaf, 1 gram of concentrate or 100 milligrams of THC in a capsule, oil, tincture or topical as one unit. A new 90-day supply is allowed in the final seven days of each 30-day stretch.
  • What forms: Flower is sold as dry leaf for vaporization, alongside vape cartridges, capsules, oils, tinctures and topicals. Lighting it up is illegal for everyone. You will not find edibles on the shelf, though the law lets a patient or caregiver mix medical marijuana into food.
  • City penalties: A Pittsburgh city ordinance lets police cite people for possessing 30 grams or less or 8 grams of hashish under the city code instead of state drug law. It reduces the penalty, not the illegality: possession without a Pennsylvania card is still against state law.
  • Driving: Any amount of THC or its metabolite in your blood can support a DUI charge, card or no card.
  • Flying: At Pittsburgh International Airport, TSA screeners follow federal law and refer cannabis to police.

Cannabis Taxes in Pittsburgh

There is no sales tax on medical marijuana in Pennsylvania, and we found no Pittsburgh or Allegheny County cannabis tax. The state does tax growers and processors at 5% of their sales to dispensaries, but the law bars passing it on as a separate receipt line. Compare price levels in our 2026 cannabis prices by state.

Medical Marijuana in Pittsburgh

Getting a card takes four steps: create a profile in the state registry using a Pennsylvania license or ID, see a registered practitioner who certifies a qualifying condition, pay the $50 yearly card fee (no cost for many Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP, WIC and PACE/PACENET participants), then shop at any dispensary in the state. Caregivers can be named for patients who cannot shop for themselves, and patients under 18 must have one.

Ohio and West Virginia: Ohio sells to adults, but since March 20, 2026 Ohio law treats marijuana bought outside Ohio as contraband, so a Pennsylvania patient's medicine is not protected there. Anything bought in Ohio is likewise illegal to bring home without a Pennsylvania card. Crossing a state line with cannabis also violates federal law.

Adult use in Harrisburg: As of October 2026 it remains illegal. HB 1200 cleared the House 102 to 101 on May 7, 2025 and then failed 3 to 7 in the Senate Law and Justice Committee on May 13. SB 120 has sat in that committee since July 10, 2025, and its discharge resolution came off the Senate calendar on October 19, 2026.
