Where CannaSutra Comes From
CannaSutra is the flagship strain of Delta 9 Labs, according to its SeedFinder breeder listing. The cross is Reclining Buddha as the mother and Sensi Star as the father, and Leafly and AllBud both give the same pairing and the same 70/30 indica-to-sativa split. SeedFinder traces Reclining Buddha back through Super Skunk, Big Skunk Korean and Holland’s Hope, and lists Sensi Star as probably an Afghan, Indian and Skunk blend. CannaSutra was sold as regular F1 seeds and never as feminized seed.
The name is a play on the Kama Sutra, and Leafly’s description leans into it, saying the strain is meant to heighten the senses. Its real calling card, though, is the clear head it inherits from Reclining Buddha, which the breeder notes the strain keeps. Today it turns up mostly as a seed database listing and an occasional menu item. We found no documented awards or offspring.
CannaSutra Effects: What It Feels Like
For an indica-dominant strain, CannaSutra is unusually lucid. The breeder describes a clear-headed, uplifting buzz that lifts mood and sharpens focus, suitable for use throughout the day. Leafly calls it mellow and functional enough to leave mental sharpness intact, with euphoric, uplifted and happy as the top reported effects and an overall calming profile. AllBud agrees, describing mood elevation, mental clarity and a mild, relaxing body buzz, with focus, euphoria and an appetite bump among its tags.
Moderate THC is part of the appeal. At 12% to 17%, it is a reasonable pick for people who find modern 25% strains too much, or who want to relax without losing the afternoon. A larger dose will still bring more body weight, so pace yourself if you need to stay sharp.
CannaSutra Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor
The breeder describes the smell as distinctly sweet and the smoke as soft, aromatic and incense-like. Leafly compares the aroma to incense with sweet, hashy notes and lists pineapple, berry and earthy as flavor tags. AllBud describes a sweet floral aroma and a sweet, spicy, earthy taste with a hint of flowers on the exhale.
Leafly’s lab-style data lists terpinolene as the dominant terpene, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene. Terpinolene is more often found in sativa-leaning strains and may explain the fruity, pineapple-like side reviewers notice. The buds start loose and lime green and, according to the breeder, harden and swell with resin in the final week.
- Terpinolene: fruity, piney and herbal, common in classic sativas
- Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves
- Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops
Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.
Side Effects and How to Use CannaSutra
Dry mouth is the only negative Leafly reviewers list. With modest THC, CannaSutra is less likely than most modern strains to cause anxiety, but any cannabis can at a large dose. Take a small amount first and see how the clear-headed side holds up for you.
If you are new to CannaSutra, start with one small inhalation or 2.5 mg in an edible and wait before taking more; see our dosing guide.
Do People Use CannaSutra for Medical Reasons?
Leafly reviewers who answered most often mention pain (62%), insomnia (37%) and stress (37%). The breeder listing says some users report a strong opening of the airways, which is an anecdotal claim, and smoking anything is a poor choice for anyone with breathing problems. These are self-reports, not medical findings.

Growing CannaSutra
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Flowering: 65–70 days indoors; end of October outdoors
- Yield: 300–500 g/m² indoors
- Height: Wide, multi-branching
- Environment: Best indoors; outdoors in moderate to hot climates
The breeder listing and Leafly agree on the main points. CannaSutra performs best indoors, takes well to super cropping and needs room for its roots and many branches. It is a heavy feeder but sensitive to overwatering, so feed generously and water carefully. Indoor yields run about 300 to 500 grams per square meter, roughly an ounce per square foot, and the breeder says that holds fairly steady across growing methods. Flowering takes 65 to 70 days indoors. Outdoors it finishes at the end of October and does best in moderate to hot climates, which makes it a risky outdoor choice in the wet Pacific Northwest autumn.
Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients.
