Where Area 41 Comes From

Area 41 is an Alien Labs release. Leafly credits Alien Labs as the breeder, and SeedFinder’s breeder page says the aim was to bring big gas and power back to top-shelf cannabis by pairing the bag appeal of Gelato 41 with an old-school OG.

The OG side is described a little differently from source to source. Leafly lists Lemon Fuel OG, AllBud lists Lemon OG, and SeedFinder records the father as an unknown OG that was picked for its Lemon Fuel OG flavor. All three agree on Gelato 41 as the other parent and on a lemony OG as the partner, so the Gelato 41 x Lemon Fuel OG description is the best fit.

Area 41 has gone on to parent other strains. Leafly lists Gemini and Planetary OG as offspring, and SeedFinder lists 41 Reasons from Envy Genetics, a cross with BlowPops.

Area 41 Effects: What It Feels Like

Leafly readers most often tag Area 41 aroused, talkative and euphoric, and Leafly sums up its effects as mostly calming. AllBud describes a cerebral, energizing onset followed by a tingly body feel and an overall happy, relaxed state. Leafly’s description pitches it for a workday afternoon that runs into the evening, or for a weekend.

At around 22% THC it is strong but not extreme for a modern Gelato cross. The social, chatty early phase makes it a reasonable pick for time with friends, while the body side builds as the session goes on. Start with a small amount if you are new to Gelato-family potency.

Area 41 Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor

SeedFinder’s breeder notes say the top aromas are citrus and wood, with a taste of lemon, fruit and cedar. AllBud describes an earthy, woody base with sour lemon and fresh pine, and a sweet-and-sour citrus taste with a light fruity exhale. Leafly’s flavor tags are a little stranger: ammonia, nutty and lemon, plus fuel, berry and earthy notes in its description. That ammonia note is the OG gas showing through.

Leafly’s terpene data lists limonene as the dominant terpene, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene. Limonene explains the lemon, caryophyllene adds woody pepper, and myrcene rounds out the earthy base.

  • Limonene: bright citrus, also found in lemon and orange peel
  • Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves
  • Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops

Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.
