Dancehall is a 60/40 sativa-dominant hybrid cannabis strain bred by Reggae Seeds from Juanita La Lagrimosa and Kalijah, known for an earthy, sweet and spicy aroma and a happy, sociable, clear-headed effect. The Spanish breeder named it after the celebratory style of reggae music. Leafly and AllBud both list it as a CBD-rich strain with very little THC, though the breeder’s own description focuses on a fast, creative, cerebral high.

Where Dancehall Comes From

Dancehall comes from Reggae Seeds, a Spanish seed company that names its strains after reggae culture. The breeder’s description on SeedFinder lists the cross as its prize Juanita La Lagrimosa mother bred to its Kalijah male, gives a 60/40 sativa to indica ratio and notes the alternate name Mapetit. Leafly and AllBud repeat the same parents and ratio. Leafly adds background on both: Juanita La Lagrimosa is a Mexican, Afghan and Spanish hybrid, and Kalijah combines Blue Heaven with a Mexican-Afghan line.

The breeder describes a fairly uniform, medium to high yielding plant that adapts well to the climate of the Iberian peninsula. Seeds were sold as regular rather than feminized. Leafly lists two offspring, Rainbow and Dance World.

The chemistry is the main open question. Leafly and AllBud both describe Dancehall as strongly CBD-dominant, with listings around 13% to 16% CBD and roughly 1% THC. Reggae Seeds’ own text does not mention CBD and instead describes a fast, long-lasting cerebral effect. That gap suggests different phenotypes or selections circulate under the name, so check the lab label on any package.

Dancehall Effects: What It Feels Like

User reports are consistent. Leafly reviewers most often tag it happy, uplifted and relaxed, followed by creative, energetic, focused and euphoric, with talkative not far behind. AllBud describes a clear-headed, happy state with bursts of giggles, plenty of social energy and a mellow body feel that does not weigh you down. The breeder pitches it for socializing, time with a partner or a party.

In a CBD-dominant batch, expect a light, functional lift rather than a strong high, which is why many people treat it as a daytime strain. A batch with more THC will feel more cerebral, in line with the breeder’s description. Either way, it is not known as a sedating strain.

Dancehall Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor

The breeder says Dancehall inherited aromas from all its ancestors, ranging from forest soil to incense and sour fruit, and that the smoke flavor lingers on the palate. Leafly reviewers taste mostly earthy, floral and sweet notes with herbal spice and wood. AllBud describes a very sweet flavor with pineapple and a slight diesel touch over an earthy, tropical aroma.

Leafly’s terpene data lists myrcene as strongly dominant, followed by beta-caryophyllene and limonene. Myrcene supplies the earthy depth, caryophyllene the spice, and limonene a little fruit. Leafly also notes the buds can show green, blue, purple and red hues, and the breeder says purple tones appear when temperatures fall below about 20°C late in flowering.

  • Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops
  • Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves
  • Limonene: bright citrus, also found in lemon and orange peel

Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.

Side Effects and How to Use Dancehall

Dry mouth tops the Leafly list, followed by occasional anxiety, dry eyes, paranoia and headaches. With so little THC in most listed batches these reports are less common than with typical strains, but sensitivity varies, especially with a THC-heavier selection.

If you are new to Dancehall, start with one small inhalation or 2.5 mg in an edible and wait before taking more; see our dosing guide.

Do People Use Dancehall for Medical Reasons?

Leafly reviewers most often mention pain, anxiety, low mood, stress and inflammation, with arthritis and fibromyalgia also named. AllBud lists chronic pain, cramps, inflammation and muscle spasms among the reasons people choose it. These are personal reports, not clinical evidence. Anyone considering a CBD-rich strain for a health issue should speak with a clinician.

Growing Dancehall

  • Flowering: 60–70 days indoors; outdoors early to mid October
  • Yield: 350–500 g/m² indoors (breeder)
  • Height: Compact outdoors
  • Environment: Indoor and outdoor

Reggae Seeds says Dancehall does not branch heavily, so it suits sea of green setups if seedlings are flipped to flower from about the third week. Leafly’s grow notes likewise recommend a short vegetative period to manage height. The breeder lists 60 to 70 days of indoor flowering and an outdoor harvest in the first half of October, and describes outdoor plants as compact and sturdy. Leafly adds that low humidity and moist soil suit it. Pacific Northwest growers should plan around early October rains when harvesting outdoors.

Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients. Check your state in our cannabis laws by state guide before you plant anything.
