Medical Mass is a CBD-rich, indica-leaning hybrid cannabis strain from Royal Queen Seeds, bred from Critical Mass and a high-CBD parent. It is known for a sweet, honeyed and orange-tinged flavor and a gentle, relaxing effect without much high. Breeder and database figures put it at roughly 6–10% THC and 9–11% CBD, close to a 1:1 ratio.

Where Medical Mass Comes From
Medical Mass is a seed-bank strain from Royal Queen Seeds, the Spanish company that built much of its catalog on Critical and Skunk genetics. Leafly, SeedFinder and the seed retailer Zamnesia all credit Royal Queen, and all agree that one parent is Critical Mass, the heavy-yielding Afghani and Skunk #1 line. The goal was a Critical-style plant with high CBD and low THC.
The CBD donor is reported inconsistently. Zamnesia names Juanita La Lagrimosa, a Spanish CBD strain, while SeedFinder and some retailer listings describe the other parent as Royal Madre or Medical Madre. All of them agree it was a high-CBD plant, and both give the strain a 60% indica, 40% sativa split. The name Medical Mass reflects that pairing of Critical Mass yield with medicinal-style CBD.
Because it is sold as feminized seed, most Medical Mass is home or small-batch grown. It is less common on dispensary menus than in grow journals.
Medical Mass Effects: What It Feels Like
Users report a calm, mellow body feeling with very little head high. With roughly equal CBD and THC, the THC side is softened, and Leafly’s small set of reviews tags it as relaxed, happy and euphoric in a mild way. The breeder describes it simply as relaxing.
That makes Medical Mass a strain people choose when they want to take the edge off without getting very high. Many users treat it as a daytime or early-evening option, and people who find high-THC strains anxious or overwhelming are its natural audience. Larger amounts can still bring some drowsiness from the Critical side.
Medical Mass Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor
Royal Queen and Zamnesia describe a deep, sweet smoke that reminds people of honey, and they note it is not especially skunky for a Critical cross. Leafly users report orange, sweet and earthy flavors, and one grower there described two phenotypes: a sweet, orange-scented indica type and a lighter, citrus and floral one.
Leafly lists myrcene as the dominant terpene, followed by pinene and limonene, which fits the earthy base and citrus top notes. Zamnesia also lists ocimene. Terpene levels in a CBD strain like this vary a lot between phenotypes.
- Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops
- Pinene: fresh pine, also found in pine needles and rosemary
- Limonene: bright citrus, also found in lemon and orange peel
Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.
Side Effects and How to Use Medical Mass
Side effects are mild by most accounts. Leafly users list no common negatives, and dry mouth and some drowsiness are the usual complaints with any Critical-family plant. Even with a low THC level, start with a small amount if you are new to cannabis.
How strong Medical Mass feels depends on the batch, your tolerance and how you consume it. Start low, go slow, and read our guide to dosing cannabis.
Do People Use Medical Mass for Medical Reasons?
Medical Mass was bred with medical users in mind, and the small group of Leafly reviewers mostly mention pain, muscle spasms and stress. SeedFinder’s breeder notes say a couple of medical users reported benefits for inflammation. These are anecdotal reports, and CBD-rich strains have not been proven to treat any condition, so talk to a doctor before using cannabis for a health issue.

Growing Medical Mass
- Difficulty: Easy
- Flowering: 7–11 weeks (sources differ)
- Yield: Up to 500–550 g/m² indoors; up to 550 g per plant outdoors
- Height: 60–100 cm indoors; 120–150 cm outdoors
- Environment: Indoor or outdoor; outdoor harvest around late September
Royal Queen sells Medical Mass as feminized seed and describes it as a manageable, heavy-yielding plant inherited from Critical Mass. Flowering times disagree: SeedFinder lists about 7 to 8 weeks, while Zamnesia’s breeder data says 10 to 11 weeks, so plan for the longer window. Outdoor plants finish around late September. Like most Critical crosses, the heavy colas are prone to bud rot in damp weather, which matters in wet Pacific Northwest autumns.
Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients.
