Bonita Springs has 13 dispensaries licensed by the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). They are medical-only: a shopper needs an active Florida registry ID card or must be a registered caregiver, and visitors from other states cannot buy. Bonita's store count is high for its size because of where it sits, at the southern edge of Lee County, just over the line from Naples and Collier County, where dispensaries are banned in most places.
Collier County commissioners voted in 2023 to ban dispensing facilities in unincorporated Collier, and the City of Naples has its own ban, according to WGCU and WUSF. Our directory shows only two stores in all of Collier County, both on Marco Island. Estero, between Bonita and Fort Myers, also voted a ban. For many Naples-area patients, Bonita Springs is the closest place with a wide choice of companies: 12 of them, with only Trulieve running two locations. Bonita itself paused dispensaries with a moratorium in 2017 before the first stores opened.

Visiting a Dispensary in Bonita Springs: ID, Payment and Hours
Bring the registry card plus a photo ID. If you are a seasonal resident from up north, the card will have been issued on two proofs of your Florida address rather than a Florida license, which is allowed; bring your usual photo ID to the counter. The store checks the registry and fills only what your physician ordered. Accepted payment differs from company to company; ask before you count on a card. Florida bans dispensing at stores from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Bonita Springs and Florida Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving
- Supply limits: No more than a 70-day supply dispensed per 70 days, and no more than 2.5 ounces of smokable flower per 35 days unless the OMMU grants an exception.
- Edibles: State rules cap an edible at 200 mg of THC, with servings of no more than 10 mg.
- Public smoking: State law makes public use a misdemeanor, and Bonita Springs adopted its own ordinance (16-18) in 2016 on smoking medical cannabis in open and public places, which WINK News reported covers parks, beaches and parking lots.
- Crossing into Collier: Carrying your medicine home to Naples is legal for a registered patient if it stays in its original package, with your card on you.
- Driving: Driving while impaired is DUI, card or not.
