Clearwater has 13 dispensaries licensed by the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). Every one is a medical marijuana store open only to patients and caregivers in the Florida registry, so the hotel crowd on Clearwater Beach cannot buy without a Florida card. And even registered patients cannot light up on the sand: since June 2023 Clearwater has banned smoking and vaping on its public beaches and in its parks.
Clearwater is a beach town on postcards but a commuter city on the map, and its dispensaries follow the commute. None is on the barrier island. Instead they line the three big east-west and north-south roads that carry traffic through mid-Pinellas: Gulf to Bay Boulevard, US 19 and Roosevelt Boulevard. Trulieve has three Clearwater stores and MÜV two; eight other companies have one each.

Visiting a Dispensary in Clearwater: ID, Payment and Hours
Every visit starts with two IDs: the Florida Medical Marijuana Use Registry card and a government photo ID. The budtender pulls up your record in the state registry to confirm it is active and to see what your physician authorized. Payment options are each company's call, and credit cards are uncommon, so check first. Florida law forbids sales at the counter from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., which is why Clearwater stores shut by 8:45 p.m.
Clearwater and Florida Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving
Beaches and parks. State law already makes using medical marijuana in a public place a first-degree misdemeanor, except for non-smokable low-THC products. Clearwater's 2023 ordinance, passed unanimously under a 2022 state law that let cities restrict smoking at beaches and parks, adds a civil ban on smoking and vaping in those places for everyone. Treat the sand and the parks as off limits.
Hotels and rentals. Florida law lets property owners bar smoking or vaping on their premises, so check your hotel or rental's rules. A registered patient may use non-smokable forms privately.
Limits and driving. Stores dispense up to a 70-day supply per 70 days and no more than 2.5 ounces of smokable flower per 35 days. Impaired driving is DUI. See our Florida marijuana laws guide.

Florida exempts medical marijuana and its delivery devices from sales and use tax, so Clearwater patients pay the shelf price. Treatment centers post prices for a 30, 50 and 70-day supply on their websites. Our 2026 price guide compares states.
