Visiting a Dispensary in Lancaster: Card, ID, Payment and Hours

Have your state medical marijuana card and a Pennsylvania driver's license or photo ID in hand when you walk in; a store cannot serve you on a certification alone. If you are new to a store, check whether it wants first-visit appointments. By law a pharmacist or physician must be reachable during all patient hours, on site or by real-time video, so you can ask about dosing and product forms. Most Lancaster stores open at 9 a.m. Cash and debit are the safe choices.

Lancaster and Pennsylvania Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

Pennsylvania measures purchases in units. A Lancaster patient may receive up to 192 of them, the regulatory definition of a 90-day supply, and may pick up the next supply in the last week of any 30-day period. Each unit equals 3.5 grams of flower, 1 gram of concentrate or 100 milligrams of THC in pill, oil, tincture, liquid or topical form.

The flower on Lancaster menus is dry leaf meant for a vaporizer; burning it is against the law. Dispensaries carry no gummies or baked goods, but the law allows patients and caregivers to add medical marijuana to food themselves. Any detectable THC or metabolite in a driver's blood can lead to a DUI charge, and patients have no exception. Our Pennsylvania marijuana laws guide has the full detail.

Cannabis Taxes in Lancaster

Lancaster patients pay no sales tax on medical marijuana, and we found no city or county cannabis tax. A 5% state tax is paid by growers and processors and never shows on your receipt. Our 2026 cannabis prices by state puts Pennsylvania prices in context.

Medical Marijuana in Lancaster

Lancaster County residents qualify the same way as everyone else in the state: sign up in the online registry with a Pennsylvania license or ID, get certified by a registered practitioner for one of the state's qualifying conditions, pay $50 for the card (free for some public-assistance participants), and then shop. Up to two caregivers can buy for a patient.

Visiting Amish Country? Lancaster draws visitors from across the Northeast, but none of them can buy here. Pennsylvania has no adult-use sales and no reciprocity, and possessing cannabis without a Pennsylvania card is a crime, even if it was bought legally in another state.

Legalization status: No adult-use bill has become law. The House approved HB 1200 by a single vote in May 2025 before the Senate Law and Justice Committee rejected it, and SB 120 remains in that committee as of October 2026. The 2026-27 budget did not change the law.
