Where Earth OG Comes From

Earth OG, sometimes sold as Earth OG Kush or EOG, is generally listed as Sour Diesel crossed with Ghost OG. Leafly and AllBud both give that pairing. Weedmaps is less certain: it describes the cross as Sour Diesel with OG Kush, or possibly Ghost OG, and says the lineage is uncertain. Since Ghost OG is itself an OG Kush cut, the two versions are not far apart, and either way the strain blends East Coast Sour Diesel fuel with West Coast OG.

The breeder is murky. AllBud credits an infamous grower called Ghost, and Weedmaps notes that some people attribute it to a breeder by that name while calling the original creator unknown. Leafly names no breeder. Weedmaps also points out that Apothecary Genetics used this Earth OG in a similarly named cross with Joe’s OG Kush, so you may see more than one Earth OG on menus.

Earth OG has more reviews than most strains in this family. Leafly shows a 4.3 average from about 57 ratings, and Weedmaps says seeds and clones are not currently available, which suggests it survives mainly as kept cuts.

Earth OG Effects: What It Feels Like

The databases disagree on which way Earth OG leans, and reviewers do too. Leafly tags the top effects as giggly, happy and uplifted and calls it mostly energizing, with a cerebral, stimulating high that works alone or in a group. AllBud lists it at 80% indica and describes a creative, introspective, uplifting head high that gives way to a heavy body with couch-lock and heavy eyes. Weedmaps users mostly report feeling relaxed, with some focus.

The most likely explanation is that Earth OG starts in the head and finishes in the body, and how far it goes depends on how much you take. One Leafly reviewer found it energizing and cerebral while also feeling an indica-style body high, another said it helps them sleep at low doses, and others found it mostly a light head high. An AllBud reviewer with anxiety described feeling deeply relaxed after a few puffs, with a head buzz that settled into the body and a strong appetite. Take it in the afternoon or evening rather than before work until you know how it hits you.

Earth OG Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor

Earth is a fair name. Leafly lists woody, earthy and diesel flavors with a sour lemon undertone, and AllBud describes an earthy aroma with lemon notes and a spicy, sweet lemon taste with pine and tang. Weedmaps describes the taste as lemon, pine and fuel over a diesel, earth and lemon nose. The Sour Diesel side shows in the fuel, and the OG side in the pine and wood.

Leafly lists beta-caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and myrcene. That lines up with the profile: caryophyllene for the spice, limonene for the lemon and myrcene for the earthy base. AllBud describes small, popcorn-style buds in minty green with orange hairs and a heavy trichome coat.

  • Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves
  • Limonene: bright citrus, also found in lemon and orange peel
  • Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops

Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.

Side Effects and How to Use Earth OG

Leafly users most often mention dry eyes, dry mouth and dizziness. Some reviewers coughed on big hits, one said heavy use made it hard to focus, and AllBud warns about couch-lock and heavy eyes at higher doses. Start small.

With Earth OG, as with any strain, a smaller dose usually avoids anxiety or grogginess. Our cannabis safety guide covers what to do if you take too much.

Do People Use Earth OG for Medical Reasons?

On Leafly, the reasons users most often give for choosing Earth OG are anxiety, depression and stress, and the description also mentions appetite loss and nausea. AllBud’s listing adds chronic pain, headaches, insomnia, muscle spasms and PTSD, and one AllBud reviewer says it eased their back pain. These are personal reports, not clinical findings.

Growing Earth OG

  • Flowering: 56–63 days (per Weedmaps)
  • Yield: Low (per Weedmaps)
  • Environment: Indoors or outdoors

Weedmaps lists a flowering time of 56 to 63 days and says Earth OG gives low yields even in good conditions, grows indoors or outdoors, and can show purple hues when nights turn cool late in flower. Seeds and clones are not currently listed as available, so finding a cut is the hard part. As with any dense OG-type bud, outdoor growers in wet Pacific Northwest autumns should watch for mold late in the season.

Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients. Check your state in our cannabis laws by state guide before you plant anything.
