Where Mango Comes From

Mango is a KC Brains strain. Leafly lists it as a cross of KC 33 and Afghani, and SeedFinder’s lineage entry gives KC 33 and an Afghan, though the breeder’s own text adds a third piece: a K.C. Special Select plant crossed with KC 33 and an Afghani-type plant. Either way, it is a Dutch-bred indica with Afghani roots. The breeder promotes it for very big buds, strong production and an early harvest.

SeedFinder records a third place in the Indica category at the 2002 High Times Cannabis Cup. Leafly also lists Mango OG as an alias, but that name gets attached to other strains too, including Mango Kush, and other seed companies such as Kulu Seeds have sold their own strains called Mango. This page covers the KC Brains original.

Mango Effects: What It Feels Like

Leafly reviewers most often report hungry, relaxed and sleepy effects, and the site describes a euphoric, mood-lifting start. It is known as a creeper: the effect builds slowly, so it is easy to take too much while waiting for it. SeedFinder users describe it as relaxing, calming and, at strength, couch-locking.

AllBud reviewers split on it. Some found it heavy and clumsy at higher doses, while one found it mentally stimulating enough to avoid close to bedtime. Give it a full 20 to 30 minutes before deciding whether to have more.

Mango Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor

The name is earned. Leafly says it smells and tastes like a ripe mango and lists mango, tropical and sweet flavors. SeedFinder users add lemon, lime and a bubble-gum note on the nose, with sweet lemon on the palate, and one AllBud reviewer noticed pine.

Leafly’s terpene data puts myrcene first, followed by pinene and caryophyllene. Myrcene is also found in real mangoes and fits the ripe, musky fruit note, pinene adds the piney edge, and caryophyllene a faint spice.

  • Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops
  • Pinene: fresh pine, also found in pine needles and rosemary
  • Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves

Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.

Side Effects and How to Use Mango

Leafly lists dry mouth, dry eyes and headache as the most common complaints. The creeping onset is the main trap: people who redose too fast end up heavier and more sedated than they wanted. Expect the munchies.

With Mango, as with any strain, a smaller dose usually avoids anxiety or grogginess. Our cannabis safety guide covers what to do if you take too much.

Do People Use Mango for Medical Reasons?

Leafly readers most often say they reach for Mango during stress (41%), anxiety (33%) and pain (30%), and AllBud reviewers mention it for sleep and appetite. These are user reports, not clinical evidence.

Growing Mango

  • Flowering: 6–9 weeks indoors per the breeder; 7–10 weeks outdoors (Leafly lists 9–11 weeks)
  • Yield: Up to 150 g per plant indoors; up to 800 g per plant outdoors
  • Height: About 90 cm indoors; 2.2–3 meters outdoors
  • Environment: Indoor or outdoor; best suited to outdoor; harvest late September to mid October

SeedFinder’s breeder data gives six to nine weeks of flowering indoors and seven to ten outdoors, with indoor plants near 90 cm and outdoor plants reaching 2.2 to 3 meters and up to about 800 g each. Leafly’s growers describe softball-size buds and suggest stopping veg early outdoors to keep height manageable. One SeedFinder grower reported good tolerance of cold, wet weather and mold, useful in a Pacific Northwest autumn, but another saw hermaphrodites from regular seed, so feminized seed or a proven clone is the safer start.

Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients. Check your state in our cannabis laws by state guide before you plant anything.
