Where True OG Comes From
True OG comes from Elemental Seeds, the seed arm tied to Elemental Wellness, a medical collective in San Jose. SeedFinder’s breeder notes say the collective obtained OG Kush cuts from Topanga Canyon in Southern California in 2004 and worked the line into a heavy, indica-leaning OG. Leafly lists OG Kush as its parent and places its discovery in Southern California, and SeedFinder traces it straight back to OG Kush.
Elemental sells it as feminized seed, sometimes under the name The True OG. Leafly and SeedFinder list Mango Tango among its offspring, SeedFinder adds Grizzly Kush, and Leafly also names Gummy Bears.
The name is not exclusive. Soma Seeds has sold a different True OG built from OG Kush genetics, and seed sellers also use “True OG Kush” for other packs. When people talk about True OG on dispensary menus, they usually mean the Elemental cut.
True OG Effects: What It Feels Like
Leafly reviewers most often call True OG relaxed, sleepy and tingly, and the site rates it as mostly calming while noting a more focused head high than many OGs. The breeder describes heavy cerebral euphoria paired with strong body effects, and SeedFinder users mention a calming, light-headed feel that lasts a long time.
It is a classic evening OG. The first stretch can feel clear and pleasantly heady, then the body weight builds until sleep starts to sound good. Because users report long-lasting effects, it is easy to overdo with repeat doses.
True OG Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor
SeedFinder’s listing describes sweet lemon, lime and diesel aromas, and the breeder mentions deep pine and gasoline notes. Leafly lists earthy, pine and citrus flavors and describes the buds as pungent with a crisp citrus and pine scent. The exhale stays earthy and fuel-forward, true to OG Kush.
Leafly’s lab data shows myrcene as the top terpene, followed by limonene and caryophyllene. Myrcene supports the earthy, sedating base, limonene drives the lemon and lime top notes, and caryophyllene adds peppery spice.
- Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops
- Limonene: bright citrus, also found in lemon and orange peel
- Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves
Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.
Side Effects and How to Use True OG
Leafly reviewers most often report dry eyes, dry mouth and headaches. The strong, lasting body effect can leave you groggy if you use it late or in large amounts.
How strong True OG feels depends on the batch, your tolerance and how you consume it. Start low, go slow, and read our guide to dosing cannabis.

Growing True OG
- Flowering: 56–62 days
- Environment: Indoor or outdoor; feminized seed only
SeedFinder’s breeder listing gives a flowering time of about 56–62 days and says True OG can be grown indoors or outdoors, sold only as feminized seed. Breeder data on yield, height and difficulty is not published, and grower reports vary. Like most OG Kush cuts it forms dense, resinous colas, so outdoor growers in wet Pacific Northwest autumns should keep airflow high and watch for bud rot.
Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients. Check your state in our cannabis laws by state guide before you plant anything.
