Denver has become the 1st US city to set the rules and regulations for the legal, recreational use of marijuana. On Monday night, the Denver City Council passed its retail marijuana rules and regulations. (Click to view the entire legal document) While residents voted for the recreational use of marijuana in November, many cities have delayed the implementation. Thankfully, this feet dragging so to speak did not occur in Denver which is Colorado’s largest city. This is great news and we hope the retail marijuana industry flourishes in Denver. With the other cities and states watching, we hope the successful implementation convinces them to follow suit.
Some of the highlights of Colorado’s legal marijuana rules include:
Marijuana facilities must be 1,000 ft. away from a school, child care center, drug treatment center or another marijuana establishment.
Through 2016, only current medical marijuana businesses may apply for a license to sell retail marijuana.
New licensees will have to go through a public hearing before being granted a license. Hearings are alleged to be less restrictive than liquor licenses.
