Dispensaries in Gainesville

Gainesville has 15 dispensaries licensed by the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). These are medical marijuana treatment center stores, so you need an active Florida registry ID card, as a patient or a registered caregiver, to buy anything. Out-of-state students and visiting fans cannot use a card from home. And even a valid Florida card does not let you keep marijuana in a University of Florida residence hall: UF's housing rules say medical cannabis may not be possessed or used on university property.

Gainesville is a college town with all of Alachua County's dispensaries inside it, and the map follows the campus. A cluster sits just north and east of UF along University Avenue and NW 13th Street, another along SW 34th Street and Archer Road, and a couple more downtown. Thirteen companies share the 15 stores, and only Trulieve has more than one, with three.

Visiting a Dispensary in Gainesville: Card, ID, Payment and Hours

Bring your registry card and a government photo ID; a student ID is not enough. The store checks the registry and sells only what your certification covers. Cash and debit are normal. No Florida store may sell between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., though delivery to registered patients is allowed around the clock.

Gainesville and Florida Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving

A patient may buy up to a 70-day supply per 70 days, including no more than 2.5 ounces of smokable flower per 35 days without an OMMU exception, and may possess a 70-day supply or 4 ounces of flower in the original packaging. Medical use is not allowed in public places such as campus lawns, game-day tailgates and city parks, or in a car. Landlords may ban smoking on their property, a point worth checking in student housing off campus. Impaired driving is DUI. See our Florida law guide.

Cannabis Taxes in Gainesville

Florida exempts medical marijuana from sales tax, and we found no Alachua County cannabis tax. Compare the 30, 50 and 70-day prices each company posts, or see our 2026 prices by state.

Medical Marijuana in Gainesville

To qualify, see a qualified Florida physician in person, have the certification entered in the registry, and apply to the OMMU with the $75 annual fee. Residency matters for students: adults prove it with a Florida driver license or ID card, and the seasonal-resident route in section 381.986(5)(b) has its own conditions. Cannabis 101 explains the terms.
