In a follow up to a story we first posted last week, the first of the two Michigan men found guilty of cultivating and selling pot has been sentenced. Gerald Duval Jr, a 52 year old man from Monroe County, Michigan was sentenced to ten years in prison for cultivating marijuana. When handing down the sentence, US. Judge David Lawson said that Duval had, ” shamelessly exploited,” Michigan medical marijuana laws as a way to get around growing and distributing pot.
Gerald Duval Jr. and his son Jeremy Duval had a greenhouse that was a 100 feet long by 50 feet wide. They claim that they were growing it legally for distribution to medical dispensaries within their state, all completely legal by state law. DEA officials say that the Duvals had far exceeded the legal limits and that they knew it.
Gerald was given a lighter sentence than the 16 years that prosecutors had hoped for. Sentencing of Gerald’s son Jeremy was postponed to another day.
