Headband is a hybrid cannabis strain bred from OG Kush and Sour Diesel, known for a lemon-diesel aroma and a heavy, head-hugging pressure that gives the strain its name. Its breeder is disputed, with DNA Genetics, an East Coast breeder known as Weasel and Loompa Farm all tied to the story. THC commonly tests around 18% to 26%.

Where Headband Comes From
Headband is widely described as OG Kush crossed with Sour Diesel, and that is the one point all sources agree on. Who made it is a different matter. DNA Genetics gets the most credit in strain databases. Another account traces it to an East Coast breeder known as Weasel, who reportedly called it Underdog and later Daywrecker Diesel. A third points to Loompa Farm, whose Headband is also called Underdog OG. These stories come from secondary and retail sources, with no breeder paperwork to settle them.
The name is said to come from the band of pressure many people feel around the forehead. That sensation became its calling card in the 2000s.
Headband went on to parent many popular crosses, including Blueberry Headband, Sour Headband and Yeti OG, which is a Headband backcross from Loompa Farm.
Headband Effects: What It Feels Like
Headband usually hits with a distinct feeling of pressure around the temples and forehead, the effect that inspired the name. A calm, euphoric head high follows, and the body gradually melts into relaxation. Thoughts slow down but stay fairly clear at a modest dose.
Most people use it in the late afternoon or evening. It can be enjoyable for a relaxed meal, a movie or a quiet conversation. Heavier doses are sedating, and the head pressure can feel intense or dizzying for newcomers.
Headband Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor
The aroma mixes lemon and diesel, with earthy, sweet undertones from the OG side. Fresh buds can smell sharply of fuel, and the lemon comes through more when the flower is broken apart.
The smoke is smooth, with a lemony, fuel-forward inhale and a sweeter, earthier exhale. Limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene are the terpenes most often reported. As with most OG-Diesel lines, the balance varies from cut to cut.
- Limonene: bright citrus, also found in lemon and orange peel
- Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves
- Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops
Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.
Side Effects and How to Use Headband
Dry mouth and dry eyes are the common side effects. The signature head pressure can be uncomfortable for some people, and large doses may bring dizziness, drowsiness or anxiety. Go slowly the first time.
With Headband, as with any strain, a smaller dose usually avoids anxiety or grogginess. Our cannabis safety guide covers what to do if you take too much.
Do People Use Headband for Medical Reasons?
Users commonly mention Headband for easing stress, helping them relax at night and taking the edge off tension. Some people also say they reach for it when they have trouble winding down. These are reported experiences, not medical claims.

Growing Headband
- Difficulty: Moderate
- Flowering: 8–9 weeks
- Yield: Medium
- Height: Medium to tall
- Environment: Indoor or warm outdoor
Headband tends to grow with a classic OG structure: stretchy branches, moderate leaf and dense, resin-heavy flowers. It does well with training, a bit of defoliation and strong airflow. Its tight buds can be prone to mold in a damp Pacific Northwest fall, so plan an indoor run or a greenhouse. Flowering is commonly reported at around 8 to 9 weeks.
Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients. Check your state in our cannabis laws by state guide before you plant anything.
