Querkle is an indica-dominant hybrid cannabis strain bred from Purple Urkle and Space Queen, known for a heavy grape and berry aroma and a calm, relaxing high. It was bred by Subcool of TGA Subcool Seeds, who wanted to keep Urkle’s purple grape character in a faster-flowering plant. Lab-tested flower usually lands around 19–24% THC.

Where Querkle Comes From

Querkle comes from the late breeder Subcool, whose TGA Subcool Seeds line (later sold as Subcool’s The Dank) produced many well-known Space Queen crosses. SeedFinder’s breeder notes describe the goal: take the slow-flowering Purple Urkle mother and speed it up with Space Queen, while keeping the grape flavor and purple color. Leafly and AllBud both list the same two parents.

The result is an 80/20 indica-leaning plant that finishes in about eight weeks, much faster than Urkle alone. SeedFinder records a second place in the hybrid category at the 2014 Karma Cup. Leafly lists Cheese Quake and Midnight Moon among its offspring, and Querkle also became a common breeding parent in other TGA projects.

Because Querkle was sold as regular seed, growers report several phenotypes. One Leafly reviewer who ran a dozen plants described a common type, a rarer deep purple type, and a green type that felt more balanced.

Querkle Effects: What It Feels Like

Leafly reviewers most often call Querkle relaxed, sleepy and hungry, and the site describes it as mostly calming. AllBud adds euphoric, happy and creative moods, and some users report an alert, focused start before the body weight sets in. Subcool described it as an indica head high rather than a pure body stone.

It fits evenings best: a mellow mood lift followed by loose muscles and, at higher doses, a slide toward sleep. Some phenotypes feel lighter and more upbeat than others, so a new batch can surprise you. Start with a small amount to gauge it.

Querkle Terpenes, Aroma and Flavor

Grape is the headline. Leafly lists berry, grape and sweet flavors, and SeedFinder’s breeder notes call for a strong grape taste inherited from Purple Urkle. Reviewers compare it to grape soda or grape hard candy, with some berry, musky and earthy notes from Space Queen. The smoke stays sweet on the exhale.

Leafly’s lab data shows myrcene as the top terpene, followed by caryophyllene and pinene. Myrcene supports the heavy, earthy base, caryophyllene adds a little spice, and pinene gives a faint fresh edge.

  • Myrcene: earthy, musky and herbal, also found in mango and hops
  • Beta-caryophyllene: peppery and spicy, also found in black pepper and cloves
  • Pinene: fresh pine, also found in pine needles and rosemary

Terpene levels vary from grower to grower and batch to batch, so check the lab label on the package. Learn more in our guide to cannabis terpenes.

Side Effects and How to Use Querkle

Leafly reviewers report dry eyes, dry mouth and dizziness most often. A few users mention a spacey or racy feeling with certain phenotypes. Heavy doses can bring on couch-lock or sleepiness, so plan to stay put.

With Querkle, as with any strain, a smaller dose usually avoids anxiety or grogginess. Our cannabis safety guide covers what to do if you take too much.

Do People Use Querkle for Medical Reasons?

Leafly readers most often report reaching for Querkle during stress (48%), pain (40%) and anxiety (37%), and AllBud users mention insomnia and low appetite. These are personal reports, not clinical evidence.

Growing Querkle

  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Flowering: About 8 weeks (56 days)
  • Yield: Medium to heavy with extended veg
  • Height: Short and dense
  • Environment: Indoor or outdoor

SeedFinder’s breeder notes give a harvest at about 56 days, a short, dense plant and medium to heavy yields that come mostly from bud density, especially after a longer veg. The breeder suggests vegging into a large bush or running untopped in a SCROG. It was released as regular seed, so pheno-hunting is part of the job. Dense purple colas hold moisture, so growers in wet autumn climates like the Pacific Northwest should keep airflow high and watch for bud rot.

Home-grow rules depend on the state: adults can grow at home in states such as California (six plants per residence), Michigan (12 per residence) and Oregon (four per household), while Washington and Illinois allow home growing only for registered medical patients.
