Tallahassee has 21 dispensaries licensed by the Florida Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU). The state capital follows the same medical-only rules it writes: a sale needs an active Florida registry ID card held by a patient or a registered caregiver, and a student ID, a driver's license or another state's medical card will not do. Eight of the stores line West Tennessee Street, the main road between Florida State University and the west side.
For a city of its size, Tallahassee has an unusually crowded market. Fifteen treatment centers compete for 21 storefronts here, and none has more than three locations. The result is a market shaped by students and state workers alike: a strip of stores near the FSU campus, another run up Thomasville Road toward the Georgia line, and a few on the east side along Capital Circle and Apalachee Parkway.

Visiting a Dispensary in Tallahassee: Card, ID, Payment and Hours
Have your registry card and photo ID ready at the door. The budtender checks the state registry, confirms your card is active, and fills only what your certification allows. Florida also lets the OMMU approval email stand in for the card until the plastic one arrives. Cash and debit are the usual ways to pay. Stores here open between 7 and 10 a.m. and close by 9 p.m., because state law bars in-store sales overnight; treatment centers may still deliver to patients' homes at any hour.
Tallahassee and Florida Cannabis Laws: Purchase Limits, Public Use and Driving
- Buying: At most a 70-day supply every 70 days. Smokable flower is limited to one 35-day supply, no more than 2.5 ounces, unless the OMMU grants an exception.
- Holding: A 70-day supply, or up to 4 ounces of flower, in original packaging, with your card on you.
- Campus: FSU's health office reminds students that federal law prohibits the use, possession or sale of marijuana, and the university runs a federal Drug-Free Schools program. Check your school's conduct code and housing rules before keeping any on campus.
- In public: Game-day tailgates, city parks and sidewalks are public places, where patient use is not protected.
- Crossing into Georgia: Thomasville Road becomes US 319 into Georgia, where your Florida card means nothing. See our Georgia law guide.
- Driving: DUI covers impairment by marijuana, and holding a card is no defense.

Cannabis Taxes in Tallahassee
Zero. Medical marijuana is exempt from Florida sales and use tax under section 212.08, and we found no Leon County or city cannabis tax. Because each company grows its own product, prices differ more than taxes ever would; the 30, 50 and 70-day supply prices every treatment center posts online are the fairest comparison. Medical Marijuana in Tallahassee
A qualified Florida physician must examine you in person for the first certification, then enter it in the state registry. After that you apply to the OMMU and pay $75 a year. Residents prove residency with a Florida driver license or ID card. Students and legislative staff whose permanent home is in another state should read the seasonal-resident rules in section 381.986(5)(b), which require at least 31 consecutive days a year in Florida plus other conditions.
